Pinnacle Knob Fire Tower Out and Back

Overview. This short hike is mostly easy hiking with a number of staircases leading to the fire tower that provides a gorgeous view of Cumberland River in the distance. It is on the national list of historic fire towers and is one of only a handful in the country with a full residence at the top. Access to the top deck is available at announced times when the park provides tours of the tower.

Trailhead. We parked outside the gate where there is enough room for two to three vehicles. It is best to leave room and not block access to the road. [map]

Trail navigation. The trail is an easy walk on double-track forest road until reaching the split pictured below. From there, ascend a number of stairs before reaching the single-track trail to the fire tower. Retrace your steps to the trailhead.

CAUTION - Poisonous snakes. Timber rattlesnakes and copperheads are the most common poisonous snakes in the area. Stay alert, as snakes are commonly found taking in the warmth of the trail. Give them a wide berth or wait for them to move off the trail.

CAUTION - Bears. Black bears are growing in number throughout Daniel Boone National Forest. Be sure to follow bear safety precautions. [Be Bear Aware by US Forest Service]
