Doe Run 'Falls' Loop

Overview. This is a nice little treat in Northern Kentucky where waterfalls on public lands are scarce. And, while it is a waterfall in the lay sense, it is also man-made. The excavation work to create Doe Run Dam and the soccer field below the falls created Doe Run ‘Falls’. Regardless, it’s a very relaxing place to spend some time and unless there is a soccer match in progress, you’re likely to have it to yourself as I did.

Trailhead. The parking lot for this hike is below the dam in a large circular lot adjacent to the spillway. [map]

Trail navigation. From the lower gravel parking lot, look toward the dam on the left side and move onto the gravel trail. Follow the trail until a double wide mowed path moves low and left. Take a right to start the loop on the narrower grass path furthest right. This will lead you uphill to a soccer field. Move around the field to the far side approaching mid-field and look to the excavated cliffs. Doe Run ‘Falls’ is located in the small crop of trees. After enjoying the falls, continue around the soccer field and pick-up the double wide grass path to return to the parking lot.

WARNING - Wet Weather Falls. This is a wet weather waterfall - meaning that if you come after a dry spell, it’s unlikely to be more than a trickle. Ideally, visit after persistent multi-day rains just as the clouds break.
