Overview. Situated below and behind the lodge, this forest walk goes through a garden of hemlocks with a number of very old hemlocks having recently fallen. From there, move through Fat Man’s Squeeze before heading out to Meditation Point. I visited after a dry period, but I see the appeal. From Winter through mid-Summer, this likely has a waterfall below with a giant rock rising up through the mature forest in the backdrop.

Trail navigation. Descend somewhat steeply before linking up with the loop by taking the first left to head west. Continue around the loop to find Fat Man’s Squeeze - drop down and through to reach the other side. Find the intersection with the spur to Meditation Point and head west to reach the point where the trail ends. Retrace your steps to the main trail and continue uphill to finish the loop.

CAUTION - Poisonous snakes. Timber rattlesnakes and copperheads can be found in the region. Stay alert on the trail, as snakes are commonly found taking in the warmth of the trail. Give them a wide berth or wait for them to move off the trail.

CAUTION - Bears. Black bears are growing in number throughout the Pine Mountain region. Be sure to follow bear safety precautions. [Be Bear Aware by US Forest Service]
