2018 Yamacraw 20K

Yamacraw is easily the most beautiful trail race in Kentucky and sells out each year. Having finished the 50K the prior year with Handsome Klatzke, we opted for the shorter distance this year so we could enjoy post-race libations without falling asleep:-) This year, we brought a much bigger crew and rented a home a short drive from the start/finish.

There are three distances at the event at 50K, 20K, and 10K. My wife and most of our friends opted for the 10K - the Blue Heron Loop. The 20K that Gary and I did follows the 50K course minus the Yahoo Falls loop and the much longer loop out past Big Spring Falls and Dick Gap Falls.

Spring really is the best time of year to enjoy this race. With water features everywhere around you - Lick Creek, Big South Fork, Princess Falls, and countless other streams and cascades - water is a constant theme. And, of course, you get to cross a number of these, so plan on getting your feet soaked.

I really enjoyed the 20K ‘fun run’, but would like to tackle the 50K again when the opportunity presents itself. Registration typically opens in October, so we’ll have to wait and see. With the ever growing popularity of this race, it’ll likely sell out soon after registration opens.
