Moser Branch Double Falls at Fort Wright Nature Center

Overview. Fort Wright Nature Center is a 16-acre city park that is home to Moser Branch Double Falls. This is a short hike, but loaded with wildflowers and the double falls make for a serene spot to sit and enjoy a break from the daily grind. I did a quick out and back, but other trails are available to explore.

Trailhead. The Highland Pike trailhead and parking lot is closed. Please use street-side parking near the Augusta Avenue trailhead. [map]

Trail navigation. The trail leaves Augusta Avenue and descends to a small reservoir abutting private property. Continue past the lake and pickup the double-track gravel maintenance road. You’ll pass a downed tree with some gravel around it that descends to Moser Branch Double Falls. Pass this and look to the right for a small single track trail with small wooden benches. Zig-zag down to the falls and enjoy.

CAUTION - Parking lot closure. The parking lot off Highland Avenue remains closed as of this writing. Use the Augusta Avenue trailhead instead.

CAUTION - Slippery trails. I hiked after some light rain and the trails were slick. Be sure to wear appropriate hiking shoes with sufficient lugs to manage a little mud.
