Suzanna Arch

Overview. This is a gorgeous short hike with a little challenge, plenty of forest, a couple creek crossings, and beautiful Suzanna Arch at the end of the trail. While the trails were closed in Red River Gorge, private trails like these remained open. To access this trail, you must rent from a lodging partner in the Cliffview Resort Area.

Trail navigation. The trail is well marked and maintained. Start by descending southwest into the forest and follow the signs to Suzanna Arch. At mile 0.3, come to a small stream that has a mini-waterfall after rains just north of the main trail. This water crossing is also an ATV route, so be aware of fellow trail users. Return to the main trail and begin moving northwest toward the arch. At mile 1.0, you’ll reach a second stream crossing and move uphill before reaching a rock shelter on your left and Suzanna Arch will come into view ahead to your right. Take your time here to enjoy the arch where lunch is always a good idea. If spending a lot of time there, move just past the arch where plenty of space is available to chill. Retrace your steps and return to the trailhead.

CAUTION - Poisonous snakes. Timber rattlesnakes and copperheads can be found in the region. Stay alert on the trail, as snakes are commonly found taking in the warmth of the trail. Give them a wide berth or wait for them to move off the trail.

CAUTION - Bears. Black bears are growing in number throughout Daniel Boone National Forest. Be sure to follow bear safety precautions. [Be Bear Aware by US Forest Service]
