Devou Park Central Loop - Vastine, Goat Path, Sleepy Hollow Trails

Overview. This is a really nice walk in the woods on well maintained, beautiful trails. There were plenty of wildflowers along the route and a couple small stream crossings with mini-waterfalls that were trickling along. After an extended wintertime hard freeze, these spots would be magnificent with icy cascades.

Trailhead. I picked up the trail on Montague Road with parking just across the street from the trailhead. [map]

Trail navigation. Walk across the street from the parking lot to find the trail sign marked ‘Benny Vastine Trail’. Move left uphill and reach another connector trail that is a sharp left behind you. Continue straight through this intersection and continue until reaching a sign post without a sign (hopefully this will be replaced soon) and go left uphill. You’ll come to a fork with a ‘Nature Trail’ sign pointing right and a less distinct trail to the left. Go right here to continue the loop. You’ll go out and around before starting your return. Reach the intersection of Sleepy Hollow and Old Montague and move left, downhill. Continue around until reaching another parking lot and take the trail on the right from the lot. Go back away from your car for a bit before making a left to return to where you parked.
