Summer on Panoramic View Trail (Great Gulf Overlook)

Overview. My last visit here was in the dead of Winter and wow what a difference a couple seasons make:-) This trail leads to an expansive view of the ‘Great Gulf’ which is a surprisingly wide valley with cliff-lined ridges all around. It’s a short, quick hike and a great complement to Natural Arch just down the street.

Trail navigation. This is a simple out and back on well defined ridgeline trail. Follow the trail north-northeast to reach the overlook. There is a nice view to the west side of the main overlook area where I enjoyed lunch at the cliff’s edge.

CAUTION - Cliffs. Be careful to avoid getting too close the edge of cliffs. This hike may not be suitable for younger children.

CAUTION - Poisonous snakes. Timber rattlesnakes and copperheads can be found in the region. Stay alert on the trail, as snakes are commonly found taking in the warmth of the trail. Give them a wide berth or wait for them to move off the trail.

CAUTION - Bears. Black bears are growing in number throughout Daniel Boone National Forest. Be sure to follow bear safety precautions. [Be Bear Aware by US Forest Service]
