Unnamed Arch on Sheltowee Trace Near Barren Fork Horse Camp

Overview. This small arch is just off Sheltowee Trace between US-27 and Barren Fork Horse Camp. Though small, it’s a nice little arch that’s super easy to reach and worth stopping in for a quick peek.

Trailhead parking. Plenty of parking is available at the trailhead just off the east side of US-27. [map]

Trail navigation. From the parking lot, reach the T and turn right. Follow Trail #100 (Sheltowee Trace) until reaching the intersection with Draft Trail. Turn to follow the Trace past the posts and no horses sign. Look to your left to see a rock wall develop where this small arch is located less than 1/10th mile from the intersection. Retrace your steps to return to the parking lot.

CAUTION - Poisonous snakes. Timber rattlesnakes and copperheads can be found in the region. Stay alert on the trail, as snakes are commonly found taking in the warmth of the trail. Give them a wide berth or wait for them to move off the trail.

CAUTION - Bears. Black bears are growing in number throughout Eastern Kentucky. Be sure to follow bear safety precautions. [Be Bear Aware by US Forest Service]
